Perfection in Imperfection
Client: Janice Wong
Industry: F&B
Discipline: Print Packaging Campaign

When Chef Janice Wong spent 72 hours in blindness to challenge her sensory appreciation, we believed that her first book needed to embody both her unique discovery of perfection within the imperfect and the raw beauty of her craft.

To celebrate individuality and the irony of the book, each cover page is crumpled and stamped with “Perfection”, before it is torn by hand. Beneath it, lies the 2nd part of the book’s cover, a black, hard board with the words “Imperfection” in hotstamp black. No two books are alike.

The finished product as an expression of philosophy and of food craft – treading between the boundaries of the arts and culinary skill.

Typical recipe books contain studio-perfect images printed on paper with a magazine-like sheen.  Janice intentionally chose Kelvin Koh, a wedding photographer who beautifully captures moments with natural lighting and the 35mm format.

After a necessary process of wet-proofing, we printed the finished work on a matt paper surface (fine print from RJ) to complement the organic, raw and experimental feel – further enhanced by the exposed binding that holds this work together.
